Touch user interfaces benefit the blind

The blind profit from accessibility features that are possible because of multi-touch. This seems counter-intuitive, because multi-touch conjures up the image of user interfaces that are sometimes almost too visually rich. Apparently, Apple’s implementation is very capable. You can, for example, point your finger at the screen and the computer speaks out what is there. It’s obvious that the same feature would not make sense with a mouse.
